Where We have been

Ride4Robbie

The NCC host a memorial ride for local cyclist Robbie Long. Robbie Long passed July 12, 2017 following a motor vehicle accident. Robbie was an avid cyclist and community contributor. To honor Robbie, his wife Barbara, his family and friends have organized R4R to celebrate his life and to raise money for the causes and charitable interests Robbie felt so strongly about. More specifically, money raised from Ride4Robbie (R4R) are used to support the NCC’s programming for bicycling safety & advocacy, monthly Veterans events and youth competitive cycling.  R4R offers a 60- and 28-mile group bike ride through the beautiful Yadkin Valley, starting and finishing at Flint Hill Vineyards.

Brenner Fit Bike Clinics

The NCC partners with Brenner Fit twice a year to facilitate a 2-part bike clinic for their youth clients.  The main focus of these clinics is to assist young riders in learning to ride a bike.  We supply bikes for use as well as gift bikes to those in need. Many of the participants are on a prescribed diet & exercise plan and learning how to ride a bike gives these participants an outlet for physical activity to support their plan and teaches them a skill they will have for the rest of their lives.

Winston-Salem Bikeshare Network - Zagster Bikeshare

FLOWBIKES Bikeshare

From 2017-2020, the NCC partnered with the City of Winston-Salem and Zagster, Inc., to provide a Bikeshare Network for the citizens and visitors of Winston-Salem. The Network consisted of 10 bikeshare stations with 50 bikes spread out across the community. The WS Bikeshare network offers alternative transportation and/or recreation options to the citizens and visitor of Winston-Salem. In 2020, Zagster, Inc. went out of business with plans of removing the bikeshare network. The NCC rose to the challenge of taking over the WS Bikeshare Network completely. The NCC purchased all of our local assets as well an additional 50 bikes and 10 stations, (100 bikes & 20 stations), sold sponsorships to support the program, rebranded all the bikes and stations and launched the FLOWBIKES Bikeshare. The FLOWBIKES Bikeshare was in operation from April 2021 – March 2023. While in operation there were 10,272 rentals and 3440 individual users. Due to rising insurance deductibles and ¾ of the fleet being stolen or vandalized we decided to discontinue service.

Pedals for People

The NCC receives donated bikes, rehabs them and gives them to new riders, most of which are from underserved communities. To date we have gifted 232+ bikes to a variety of individuals and organizations locally and across other parts of NC and WV. In addition, the NCC partners with several nonprofits to support a variety of similar efforts in Winston-Salem and the Triad. Bikes are one of the greatest things to recycle. It is truly the gift that keeps on giving.

Unique and Valuable

Currently, CHVC is the only program of its kind across North Carolina and possibly even nationally. We are proud to offer this unique opportunity for veterans to engage in recreational therapy, build community, and enjoy the great outdoors.
